The mathematics of juggling
During the beautiful summer days, you’ll find me either at the foot (or top) of the cliffs, or in a park juggling. Did you know that there is a way to "write" juggling, called siteswap. Siteswap is to juggling what sheet music is to sound (no more no less). Concretly, a siteswap is a (periodic) sequence of numbers that tells you how high, at each unit of time, the balls in your hands must be thrown. It is the Eulerian specification of the motion of juggling balls at your hands, and there are many fun little arithmetic properties surrounding it.
I gave a small presentation on siteswap notation during the Pecha Kucha event in University of Luxembourg in December 2023. You can find the slides here, but it will probably not be very relevant without a live demonstration alongside. To see if your favourite sequence of numbers is jugglable, check here.
